This excellent history, in content and presentation, was published to coincide with a Kamihi district reunion held in late 1990. Kamahi, situated northeast of Invercargill was first settled by Europeans in the late 1850s-early '60s, with one of the earliest major projects in the area the construction of a railway. However, timber milling was the earliest local industry. The cleared land was ideal for pastoral purposes and arable farming had become dominant by the 1990s. The history takes events up to that time, recalling every aspect of life, work, commerce, recreation, community and social activities, education, and notable personalities. A model publication of its type, with the author's engaging text well complemented by an amazing collection of photographs.
